Installation of tennis court cover

Depending on the construction principle of a court, the tennis cover may be 0.5 to 2.5 cm thick.

Tennis covers up to 1 cm thickness are spread out with several throws, dragged and compressed after each covering by watering. The lower cover is first slightly roughened to ensure good attachment.

Tennis covers that are in excess of 1 cm thick are spread out dry to factory-moist between lessons and immediately rolled down. For larger, contiguous areas, the use of cover pavers / graders is possible.

Up to the commissioning of a tennis court, it must be irrigated several times, rolled back and forth and levelled.

Care
  • Care and use only with moist cover
  • Thoroughly take care of drainage areas.
Rolling

Before starting use, there must be sufficient ground compaction. When tested with the edge of the heel, the indentation depth must not exceed 2-3 mm.
Following commissioning, rolling should only be done sparingly and only in exceptional cases, e.g. after the onset of freeze-thaw cycles surprising or if due to serious maintenance error, the layer has loosened.

The compaction result depends on the moisture level of the covering. If the material is too wet, it will stick to the roller drum or it will come off in big chunks if it is too dry, the bonding remains insufficient. Always roll crisscross style. After rolling several times, use a coarse broom to sweep, as this removes roller marks and also causes smooth surfaces to be roughened and get a good grip again.

Irrigation

In the absence of natural precipitation, there must be artificial irrigation. A sufficiently moist tennis cover is an absolute requirement both for the fitness of being played on as well as for proper care and maintenance. The best approach is to irrigate thoroughly during the evening hours and then roll over first thing the next morning. Then, during the day, during periods of intense sunlight, it is possible to get by on short watering periods.

Levelling / sweeping

After each match, the tennis court surface must be levelled with a broom or trawl net, to compensate for smaller material distortions because the game of tennis requires a very uniform and flat surface. Larger tracks have to be compensated with the help of scrapers; deep holes and bumps on the baseline, however, are filled with the reserve material named ZIEGELITH®.

Rebedding

Rebedding is applied when highly refined surfacing material is to be regenerated, or depressions must be filled in. In the first case, the material is sprinkled on dry, but in the case of holes it is filled in when in as moist a condition as possible, and then later on treaded in, abraded and swept over. Therefore, sufficient reserve of enough material must be available at the tennis courts.
