Tamped Cover Sports Ground

GELSENROT®-Tamped Cover Sports Ground
... Installation recommendations

All layer thicknesses stated relate to finished heights. The GELSENROT ® standard structure is shown as a three-layer method and should be used with good to medium soil quality. The additional implementation as a filter layer is recommended when the substrate consists of cohesive or very fine-grained soils. In many cases, it is already enough to increase the thickness of the base layer by 5 - 8 cm instead of installing a separate filter layer.

Standard structure

Planum

Before application of the individual strata, the planum of the underground or substructure must be designed according to the profile of the planned sports surface and has to be compacted. Permissible variations in nominal heights and evenness + / - 2.0 cm.

1 Support Layer:

GELSENROT®-PORLITH 0 - 32

As proven devices for the insertion of the support layer material, graders or bulldozers can be used. The required layer is applied in one height and is compacted with a 2 to 5 t static roller. Any unevenness must be subsequently levelled. Permissible variations in nominal heights and evenness +/- 2.0 cm. Experience shows that the rolling loss is usually between 20 and 25 %. At a required layer thickness of 15 cm, therefore, a packing of 20 cm is necessary.

2 Dynamic Layer:

GELSENROT®-PORLITH 0 – 15

The use of special installation devices, such as pavers, is carried out depending on the size of the surfaces to be treated. On smaller surfaces, the only way to go is manual work, installation between gauges.

Asphalt pavers already give rise to slight compaction of the installed material. This must be considered when estimating the bed height. For 6 cm of finished height, the following values should be used as a basis: bed height = approx. 8.5 cm in the case of manual installation; bed height = approx. 7.5 cm when installed with asphalt pavers.

The compaction is performed with static roller (no vibrocompaction) and a weight of at most 1.5 tons repeatedly in longitudinal and transverse directions. Admissible deviations in nominal heights and evenness + / - 1.0 cm.

3 Top Layer:

GELSENROT® 0 - 3

4 cm of a finished top layer require the following bed heights: bed height with manual installation = 6 cm, bed height with installation by asphalt paver = approx. 5 cm. The top layer may only be statically rolled. The roller weight may amount to a maximum 1.5 t. We are herewith pointing out the fact that it is only in the case of sufficient water content of the building material that the required compaction degree will be achieved. However, rolling works with elevated moisture content can lead to impermeability. Admissible deviations in nominal heights and evenness +/-0.5 cm.

Changes in layer sequence and layer heights may be necessary on account of local requirements.
